Hi, I’m Michael Allen

Ever since I was a kid I was a dreamer. My first camera was a film camera, and the world was my window. I’ve been blessed over the years with the gracious people that I’ve met and become friends with, many of whom I’ve either captured in photos, or filmed for a movie.
Each film that I create comes from my heart. I talk to my clients and find out their lifestyle, their loves. I want to create something for them that is simple, beautiful and moving. Capturing their wedding day gives me an opportunity to tell their story, the beginning of their lives together.Every couple tells me later how much their wedding film means to them. The wedding day speeds by like a fast train, so being able to see their day unfold in a beautiful story on film is very special to them. Having a wedding film is something that every couple loves. I’ve got a production team that I bring in to help my films, Tracy Freeman brings her artistic camera talent, along with a small indie crew we use to film our larger weddings.

People also ask me how I got the job with Southern Bride Magazine. Hundreds of photographers submit each month, so the competition is fierce. I still pinch myself after 10 years of being their official editorial photographer. I’ve shot thousands of photographs for the fashion section and hours of video footage for the magazines editorial films. I’ve got a great team that works with me shooting films and photography, Tracy Freeman is my second shooter, and my wife Janice helps when she’s not busy creating hairstyles. I’m always excited to travel across the USA and help inspire brides by creating beautiful wedding films that they will love and share for years to come.
Working on films and video is my passion. Shooting for Southern Bride Magazine is an amazing experience. My work has been published in dozens of issues, and I’ve landed the cover over a dozen times, it’s a very rewarding role and I love what I do.
I’ve traveled with the magazine all over the South, from Mexico to Key West, New Orleans, Charleston, Mobile, Destin, Memphis and more. We get to shoot all the latest designer wedding dresses and accessories from Vera Wang to Nicole Miller. My wife is a professional hairstylist, and she creates stunning hairstyles for every shoot we do.
When the first DSLR’s came out years ago, I loaded my new Canon 5d in my camera bag and headed out to the Bahamas to shoot a wedding film. It was amazing to be able to shoot on a small compact camera after lugging giant videocams around. Being able to utilize all my camera lenses to capture beautiful scenes was simply an artists dream, and a game changer for the industry.
Beautiful films that look like big budget theatre films are now the standard in wedding films because of the technology of full frame Canon cameras.
I also photograph and film commercial projects with major companies. Celebrity interviews, indie films, book covers, with artists such as Dierks Bentley, Lauren Alaina, Leigh Anne Tuohy, Tim Howard just to name a few. I’ve worked along side some of the most famous photographers in the world, names like Warwick Saint and Sebastian Kim.
Those experiences helped shape my career, and bring creative energy to every film I that I shoot. I’m honored to receive indie awards for the films that I’ve worked on. It’s exciting to see so many new talented filmmakers coming into the industry. These awards raise the bar for me to work just as hard on every film that I make.
